I have faced educational barriers throughout life. I experienced one in elementary school. I was put in a class because i spoke spanish at home. It was an ELD class. They put me in this class from kindergarten to 5th grade. I knew that I had to get out if i wanted to take classes I wanted to take in middle school. I worked really hard in 4th grade to meet the criteria, to simply get out of that class. In half of the school year in 5th grade they told me I had passed that class but i still had to be in it since they no longer had space in the other classes. I got my certificate of reclassification that year, I knew I had more opportunity from then on because I saw some of my friends having to take it and not having the opportunity to take any electives; any classes they wanted to take. Later I find out that they sometimes simply put you in that kind of class if you have a spanish last name, which is not fair because just because you have a spanish last name you automatically have problems with your english. That class was not being fair to mexicans , and I am glad i got out of it when I did. This class could have kept me from succeeding in life, people are still in this class in high school and there are opportunities of other classes to take but this class is holding them back. It is a barrier I am glad I overcame.

I began to get into makeup when I was in 5th grade. It's a very good skill i have now. I started out with using only mascara in 5th grade and later in 6th grade I started adding on like eyeshadow or lipstick, something simple. In 8th grade I found my moms eyeliner and I started playing around with it I was able to start doing wing liner. Although I wasn't very good at it, it was decent for the grade I was in. Later in 8th grade I accidentally shaved off like half of my eyebrow so that's when i started filling in my eyebrows to hide the fact. Then in high school I started exploring with eyeshadow contouring, eyeliner, and brows. I then decided to start wearing foundation, I was definitely not very good at it I chose foundations that were way to light for my skin to the point I looked like a ghost. But I started becoming better I started to use concealer, bronzer, highlighter, etc. In all these years my makeup does change a lot but I have definitely been able to improve how I do it. I think makeup is still very important because I have a passion for it and I know many that enjoy when I do their makeup for their outings. I am very glad I developed these skills and have this talent that i can further use in the future to have a career to be a makeup artist. Even if I don't decide to make it a career i will still enjoy doing it on me and my friend and family because it will still be a passion of mine.

I would say I show my creative side because I’m always against the norm.I express my opinion even if it's not the “right” thing to answer. I give an opposing side to what i believe in. I like to stand up for my believes. I would say that I really like doing the right thing. Which is what i want to express into my future job being a private investigator. Helping the law. I think my strong personality helps me achive greatness. Problem solving is something I like to do, it is something I already do. I babysit many kids and help them out if they fight. I really like being able to help others solve their problems. I have helped many people with many things. I would say i'm able to control a situation if it gets out of hand. I do that by being able to see what is fair for everyone. But, in the end I am unique because i got against the norm, for what I believe in, even if it is something i was taught was not right, my believes change because of me not because of others. For example i was taught to be a catholic I refused to growing up it was not my thing I went into a christian church and liked it much better and that's what I am now, I was taught that same sex relationships were wrong, my family thinks it marriage should be in 1 race, that is ignorance and i refuse to believe in that i have many friend that like the same sex and i'm ok with that i believe in different races being able to be together. I am my own self. I get to decide for me. I am unique in that way also.

I define my identity as the person I have become and who I believe to be. Ethnicity may play a role but also not so much. For example I am proud to be mexican but you should not judge me wrongfully for being one, being mexican does not equal being illegal. It is all about perspective and how someone views you. My identity developed by having many obstacles and hardships in life. Obstacles that do not define me but to me they are a part of me because it is something that I have went through to become who I am. I would not say that any of my grandparents are part of my identity because they were not with me long enough to be a part of it. My parents may be a part, but I am my own person with different views on life. I have made my identity by choosing to believe in what I want to believe in and nobody else. My parents identity and how they are is different they give the male more freedom than the female and from my views I do not agree with. That is what built my identity, by having my own views. I would not say i'm religious and i do not like to have the affect my life. I am a very open person and I would say I have looked into all religions and I can relate to them on some level but I don’t feel the need to stick to one religion. Some people can let religion take over their life and start to forget what is wrong from what is right. That's just something I would never let define me; a religion . I am very open to listening to what people believe in, but that is not part of my identity to push a certain way to live life on other people or on myself. I do not think religion should define someone in any way. What makes me uniquely me is that I am an open minded person something that many others lack. I am not quick to judge people based on what others think of them to be. I say that because rumors can get around and that's just what they are rumors and that's not what that person may be. I am a genuine person that gives everyone the benefit of the doubt. What i think should be able to define you is how you view life and you hope for the future in life. I believe my goals in life and what I strive to be can define me because that is what I am going out for and that is what I want to be. An identity that I want to strive for is being a hardworking criminal investigator, that's the goal. That is just me, that is who I am. I am Nancy and I know my identity whether you agree with what my identity is or what it is not.
